Kathmandu: Newly appointed interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki is set to formally assume office today (Sunday). According to officials from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Karki will begin her duties at 11 a.m. from the new building of the Ministry of Home Affairs in Singha Durbar.
The official Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar was damaged during recent protests, forcing Karki to stay at her private residence for the time being.
Cabinet Expansion Expected
Karki, who took the oath of office and secrecy on Friday, is also preparing to announce a small-sized interim cabinet later today. The final selection of ministers will follow internal discussions and consultations.
The Gen-G generation, which played a key role in nominating Karki as interim Prime Minister, is reportedly using a voting process to select potential ministers. Sources indicate that priority is being given to individuals not affiliated with political parties, aiming to ensure a neutral and inclusive interim government.
